HP Netserver LT6000 - Random Reboot
We have two LT 6000 servers which, randomly restart on their own. config is as follows:
6 x 550MHz Pentium(R) III Xeon
1024 MB
4 X 18 Gig HD
both are running windows 2000 Advanced server with all the latest service packs and security updates.
both machines have the latest bios updates available.
there is no message in either the hardware log or the windows event log, other then "The previous system shutdown at 12:38:23 PM on 1/28/2003 was unexpected."
any info would be greatly appreciated
James

Re: HP Netserver LT6000 - Random Reboot
hi
There is a services called ASR (automatic Server Restart) that will reboot the server if it hang (or appear to hang)for more that 15 minutes, usualy an evvent is ologgent in the SEL, but in case you have this services, try to stop it, if your server hang, you will found it in this situation and you may be able to perform some test.
If this service is not active, I wouls suggest to run intensive diagnostics on processors and memory.
Also be sure to have latest FW of server and array controler as well as latest drivers for them.
Last option, check for known good power source

Re: HP Netserver LT6000 - Random Reboot
We have experienced the same thing. But in our case it is only for the first 5 minutes of power up. The system gets to the log screen and sits, then reboots as if the reset switch was hit. It may do this 4 times, then hang at the log screen once or twice, then it will be fine after that.
We only run 2 processors, but we came to the conclusion it was hardware related and something was fine once it was hot, because it need does it once at operating temp.
And yes, there is no trail of the reboot. Not the hardware log nor the Windows log report the occurance. Which points to the problem as dead hardware. We always thought it was one of the processors. Try removing them one at a time.
