Installing an Adaptec 2100S RAID card in an LC3
Hi,
Has anyone successfully installed an Adaptec 2100S RAID controller in an LC3, in conjunction with a NetRAID 1-Si ?
Running NT 4 Server, whenever the Adaptec card is installed, when the machine tries to boot into the OS, we get a STOP c0000143 - The required system file DISPLAY_DRIVER.DLL is damaged or missing.
So far, we've tried sticking the Adaptec card in two different PCI slots (3 and 4) and fixing the IRQ on the PCI slot to 10.
I'm guessing we've got a conflict somewhere either between the NetRAID and Adaptec card, or possibly even with the embedded Adaptec SCSI controller, but I'm not sure where to go from here...
Any suggestions are gladly welcomed.
Regards,
Rob Leadbeater

Re: Installing an Adaptec 2100S RAID card in an LC3
Rob,
Can you boot into VGA mode into NT4.0? If you can then try to load the driver for that 2100S card. That card was never tested in the LC3 so results may be inconsistent.
Also what cards do you have in your system? In the LC3 Slots 2/6 share w/ Slot 6 recommended for a PCI NIC. Slots 1/4 share with 4 recommended again for a nic. Slot 3 shares with embedded SCSI A with slot 3 recommended for the NetRaid controller. Slot 5 has no shares and would be the best guess for the 2100S.
Ciao,
Greg

Re: Installing an Adaptec 2100S RAID card in an LC3
We've not tried booting into VGA mode, although I've got a feeling that won't help.
Slot 6 currently has a NIC installed.
Slot 5 currently has the NetRAID 1-Si installed.
Slots 1-4 are empty.
Unfortunately getting downtime on the box is limited to early morning or late evening, so I'm going to have to wait a bit before I can try anything else out.
One other thing that I didn't try previously was to remove the NetRAID controller, completely to see if the conflict lay with that or the embedded SCSI...
Cheers,
Rob

Re: Installing an Adaptec 2100S RAID card in an LC3
Rob,
I would move your NetRaid to slot 3 and move the 2100s to Slot 5. I think VGA mode will work because the stop you are getting is video driver related. After reading this post here http://www.bris.ac.uk/is/services/computers/operatingsystems/winnt/scsiprobs.htm it reminds me.. Flash your BIOS to the latest version 4.06.38PQ . You can get the Bios flash here: http://h20004.www2.hp.com/keeper_rnotes/bsdmatrix/matrix50443.html
Hope this helps,
Greg
