Hi
I might be having a problem with one of our LH4's.
Its running Raid5 so when the system writes to the disks you normally see the activity LED's flash across all the disks. However, for some reason on one of the disks the Activity LED is always on, no matter if the system is being accessed or not.
Is a constant Activity LED significant?
thanks
JC

Solution
It might be. What is the status of the LEDs on the front panel of this LH4?
Use the front panel LCD to view the HP log for possible errors. For help on navigating through the options, refer to this HP technical document:
http://isupport2.hp.com/Solution.asp?id=e56fd6b9-a23e-11d5-becb-0090278a7756
(The LH3 and LH4 LCD options are essentially the same).
If you do not find anything I would schedule a downtime, down the server and access Ctrl-M (Express Tools) during POST to check the status of the hard drives.
What OS is installed?

Re: LH4 Disk Activity Status LED
Hi Terri
Thanks for your response.
I'll check the LCD Panel to see what I can find and take it from there. Hopefully its nothing major.
Incidentally the server is running NetWare5.
thanks

Re: LH4 Disk Activity Status LED
James,
If you are still up and running in NW then you can install the netraid assistant to view your hdd status without downing the server. A steady on LED on the hdd could indicate it isn't responding but you need to verify that inside ctr-m or netraid assistant. You can download netraid assistant for NetWare on the LH4 here-> http://h20004.www2.hp.com/soar_rnotes/bsdmatrix/matrix50450en_US.html
It is in the utility quick jump section: HP NetRAID Software for NetWare
That should give you the status of the hdd. The LCD panel on the front of the server will let you access the Hardware Event log of the server but the hdd status won't show in there.
Ciao,
Greg
