Netserver LX Pro LCD
hey,
I just acuired a second had Hp Netserver Lx pro and I have installed Linux and configured it as a file server, I was wondering if it was possible to utilise the funky LCD screen in the same way as say a matrix orbital display ? And use a program like Lcd Proc to display system info ?
If so what would be the device name ??
Thanks for any help in advance.
Evan.

Re: Netserver LX Pro LCD
You can program the LCD by using the EISA configuration utility:
1. Boot to the HP Navigator CD or the EISA Configuration utility from floppy disk (download it from: http://www.hp.com/cposupport/servers/software/lxecu.exe.html )
2. Run ???EISA Configuration Utility???
3. Choose ???View or Edit Details???
4. Page down to the ???LCD Subsystem Group???
5. ???LCD Display String Enabled or Disabled??? should be set to Enabled.
6. Select the ???LCD Display String Before OS Boot??? option and press ENTER.
7. Type in the information you want to display.
=====================
NOTE:
Each line displays up to 16 characters. If exceeding 16 characters on the first line, the text will wrap around to the second line. If the first line contains less than 16 characters, it is required to enter spaces for the remaining positions to display additional information on the second line. To enter information for the second line, do not press ENTER. Continue typing on the same line.
=====================
8. Press ENTER when finished, then F10 to exit ???View or Edit Details???.
9. Select ???Save and Exit??? from the steps in ???Configuring Your Computer??? menu.
Good luck,
Marco.

Re: Netserver LX Pro LCD
Ok,
John,
you just install linux like you would any other i386 .. make the boot disks .. and configure the system, just make sure that your floppy drive is set as your first boot device.
On my box (wich after some swaring and bashing now works quite well :) I am running Debian Gnu linux after making the boot and driver and base disks ( all was hindered as my netserver was rackmounted and someone removed the cdrom :( I installed the base system now the raid card is a hp netraid but uses the ami mega raid chipset (or a rebaged card?) and the on board card is an adptec Aic7x i think .. someone correct me if this not the case.
after that all was sweet the only issue i had was with cfdisk and the raid 5 partition now Cfdisk didn't like it and said that the partition was bad or something but linux fdisk only complained a little, you can leve this step to after you have the system on if mandrake doesn't have normal fdisk .. I think it does though.
I hope this has helped you out somewhat even if it is off topic :)
you can contact me @ webmaster@superfrog.8m.com
ps my website is down so dont go there :)~

Re: Netserver LX Pro LCD
ok,
Marco,
When i got my system it didn't have any of the manuels or config disks, and had bois ver 1.007 installed so i flashed the bios the the latest ver 1.0.12 and made up a new config disk as well.
After having a good poke around i noted that you could customise the lcd screen from the Eisa config program. However I figured it to be a means of changing the default display info ?
What i was wondering was could it be used to display say how many distributed.net packets i have done or the latest system info which is done on the fly using lcd proc under linux, I have since found out that lcdproc only supports Matrix orbital displays ( 20 x 4 ) however I was wondering if these displays are capible of displaying random events such as what i have discribed above.
If i could get some extra info on them i could email the nice guys at lcdproc.net and ask them to include support for this display type.
thanks for your help,
Evan.
