There are three lights vertically arranged on the upper right hand side of the control panel.
When running in a normal mode the lower light is green.
After I removed the NIC card from the server for a test run without the card the top light is blinking red and the lower two are dark.
Is there a on-line definition of these lights or what specifically does the blinking red mean?

Solution
Hi William,
Yes, you can check to see what's causing that. The LED's are the status LED's for the server:
Green - Normal
Amber - Warning
Red - Critical
What this means is that if there is a hardware event written to the event log, it will change the LED to let you know that something happened.
There are 3 ways of checking the Hardware Event Log:
1. Through the front LCD Panel
2. Using Instant TopTools on the server (if Microsoft O/S is installed)
3. Using the HP Hardware Event Log Display Utility Diskette.
1. The LCD Panel can be navigated using the arrow keys (up, down, left, right) to move around and the carriage return button (looks like an arrow curling down to the left)to go one level deeper, and the escape button (curling up to the left) to back up one level. You cannot use the front panel to clear the event log, however, only view it.
2. Instant TopTools is a very handy program that runs in a browser window which will report sensor data and hardware events. You can download it here:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=50440&prodNameId=15389&swEnvOID=226&swLang=13&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=ns-11142-1
On the Status Tab, there is a menu option called System Event Log on the left-hand side. It will show you the events and give you the option of clearing the log if the event has already been corrected.
3. The HEL Display Utility allows you to view and clear the event log by booting to a floppy created using the following download:
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=15351&prodSeriesId=50440&prodNameId=15389&swEnvOID=54&swLang=13&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=ns-11635-1
Let us know which one you chose and how it worked for you.
Best of luck,
Sean T. Craig Sr. C.E.T., M.C.P.

Re: Signal Lights on front of LH3 Netserver
Thank you for the help,
The front LCD panel navigation works fine but I really didn't find an explaination for the red light.
The top tools worked great, there a lot of information is collected and the reason for the red light in this case is because I'm running the unit with only one power supply in place.
The event log points to the PCI device as the cause of the parity error, I'll continue the quest for an acceptable NIC.
