W3SVC error on NetServer w/ dual NIC

I have several LC2000r and LP2000r with dual nics of which I have only one connected to my network. I am receiving a W3SVC event error in my logs during boot-up of my Netservers.

Event Type: Error
Event Source: W3SVC
Event Category: None
Event ID: 115
Date: 3/12/2002
Time: 9:35:14 AM
User: N/A
Computer: SERVER1010
Description:
The service could not bind instance 1. The data is the error code.

I researched MS technet and found that this error occurs on systems with dual nics where one NIC is not plugged into the network.

Has anyone seen this on their dual nic Netservers and have you done anything to get rid of the alerts.

Re: W3SVC error on NetServer w/ dual NIC

Are you using the latest drivers for thew NICs, and not the ones that came with the OS?

http://www.hp.com/cgi-bin/cposupport/swindex.pl?p=hpnetserve5883&l=en&c=Drivers

Are they HP NIC's? If not are they on the supported products list?

http://netserver.hp.com/support/tplist.asp?pid=LC2000

What OS are you running?

Re: W3SVC error on NetServer w/ dual NIC

I am running Microsoft Windows 2000 server SP2 and HP TopTools, just recently updated to 5.51 but haven't yet rebooted the servers.

I am using the built-in NICS on the LP2000r and LC2000R which are the HP 10/100TX PCI Adapters.

The drivers I am using are from the Navigator CD which is 01/27/2000, 4.02.27.0000

Re: W3SVC error on NetServer w/ dual NIC

Frank,

Until you reboot the server you are still running the older NetServer Agents. Reboot the server and see if they are still occuring.

Re: W3SVC error on NetServer w/ dual NIC

I have rebooted one server with latest agents and the problem still exists. I don't beleive the problem is with TopTool agents but perhaps with the nic driver.

Re: W3SVC error on NetServer w/ dual NIC

Frank,

Does your nic driver hptxnt5.sys have a modified date of April 27th, 2001?

You have the absolute latest agents 5.51 I saw in your earlier POST. If your not at this driver date then definately get the lastest driver for 2000 for your servers integrated NIC's. Also try running HPSet diagnostics for the NIC and see if it passes all tests. I believe Theo already pointed you to the link for the drivers but just in case: http://h20004.www2.hp.com/keeper_rnotes/bsdmatrix/matrix62572.html

Hope that helps..

Frank,

Try this workaround from MS

Re: W3SVC error on NetServer w/ dual NIC

hi
if you have the HP drivers then you can build a teaming, (very easy) and configure it as Fault tollerance.
in this way, you will have only one ethernet interface (the team) and doesn't mind if one is disconected

Re: W3SVC error on NetServer w/ dual NIC

I can't find information on how to create nic team building/fault tolerance. Can someone point the way?
