Five reasons to adopt HPE Aruba Networking Enterprise Private 5G

gayle1.pngToday we announced HPE Aruba Networking Enterprise Private 5G, a new offering that dramatically simplifies how enterprises rollout and manage private 5G networks. With last yearโ€™s acquisition of private cellular technology provider Athonet, we have one of the broadest communications portfolios in the market and now weโ€™re taking a major step forward to give us the most complete private 5G and Wi-Fi portfolio in the market today.

Our approach is a shift from traditional private 5G networks that are managed in silos and are often based on complex, public network solutions. Instead, weโ€™ve created a wireless solution thatโ€™s simple for enterprises to manage and where Wi-Fi and P5G coexist and in fact complement each other.

Weโ€™ve seen that as wireless requirements expand, and Wi-Fi will work together to solve a variety of use cases across the distributed enterprise and also provide an onramp for AI where IoT devices in particular are connecting to the network to deliver data for training as well as inference activation. Private 5G is complementary to Wi-Fi in a number of ways: segmentation of mission-critical traffic, wider area coverage, deterministic network access, and high-speed mobility.

Five reasons to adopt HPE Aruba Networking Private 5G

Below are five ways HPE Aruba Networking Enterprise Private 5G is changing the way organizations purchase, deploy, and manage private cellular alongside their existing Wi-Fi networks:

  1. End-to-end offering. Traditionally, private cellular networks have relied on technology components from up to seven vendors, plus system integrators, to configure and manage the solution. To make it easier for enterprises to purchase, deploy, and manage, our private cellular solution includes everything needed for a private cellular network: cloud-based core and radio management, core software and HPE servers, indoor and outdoor small cell radio options, SIMs or eSIMs, and a Spectrum Access System to protect incumbents. Best of all, HPE is a single point of contact for supportโ€”streamlining and accelerating issue resolution.
  2. Enterprise simplicity. Weโ€™ve drawn on our deep experience in simplifying wireless network deployments. As a result, our enterprise P5G offering includes wizards, automation, and zero touch provisioning to make it easier for IT teams to manage Day 0 to Day N operations. Deployment times drop from hours to minutes and the need to understand the complexities of 3GPP cellular is eliminated.
  3. Proven, mature technology. The mobile core is the heart of a private cellular network, and our solution uses technology from Athonet, a Hewlett Packard Enterprise acquisition. Over the past 15 years, more than 500 enterprises and 25 service providers have implemented the Athonet mobile core. In addition, Athonet has won 7 GLOMO awards at MWC, including the prestigious CTO Choice award.
  4. Easily accessible spectrum. Regulatory advances have created a framework for private shared spectrum and light licensing models that are outside of the cellular network operators. Our enterprise solution uses Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) which is available in in the U.S. and will incorporate the lightly licensed models available in other countries such as U.K., France, Japan, and Germany in the near future.
  5. Management integration with Wi-Fi. To drive greater operational efficiency and lower learning curves, most enterprises do not want to manage two separate networks for private 5G and Wi-Fi networks. HPE Aruba Networking Central will support private 5G in addition to existing Wi-Fi, wired, and SD-WAN support in a future release. (The small cells and Wi-Fi access points will remain separate because they have different RF coverage models and use cases.)

HPE Aruba Networking Enterprise Private 5G has already received positive industry validation from analysts and customers:

  • โ€œHPE Aruba Networking Enterprise Private 5G is a significant step forward to solve for the complexity, cost, control, and management challenges associated with many private network deployments today,โ€ said Patrick Filkins, Senior Research Manager, IoT and Telecommunications, IDC. โ€œHPE Aruba Networking takes a grounded approach focusing on how to most efficiently integrate a private cellular network within an enterprise's existing IT framework, streamlining network and device management through the use of familiar tools, as well as dynamically assigning and preserving device policy across 4G/5G, Wi-Fi, and wired LAN networks.โ€
  • โ€œโ€˜Many private network solutions are too complex, even for large enterprises with internal network expertise,โ€ said Tom Rebbeck, Partner, Analysys Mason. โ€œWe expect customers to embrace solutions that can make private networks easier to deploy and manage.โ€
  • โ€œFor IronYun's Vaidio Platform to be able to provide AI inferencing at the edge and drive accurate AI video search results, we needed an infrastructure that provided fast, available and reliable bandwidth without any complexity,โ€ said Paul Sun, IronYun CEO. โ€œWe found it with HPE Aruba Networking, which provides us with all the components needed to deliver an end-to-end private 5G network for AI. HPE Aruba Networkingโ€™s private 5G network is the technical foundation for all Vaidio functions for real-time video analysis and AI inferencing that deliver AI insights to help improve security outcomes.โ€
  • "Private cellular, with its wide area, deterministic coverage, is the ideal fit for Disc Golf Network's global live competition coverage of the Disc Golf Pro Tour," said Baker Helton, DGPT Vice President of Business Administration. "The new HPE Aruba Networking Enterprise Private 5G offering will make it that much easier for companies to do what weโ€™ve done and meet their requirements for pervasive coverage with an integrated offering using CBRS.โ€
