Here’s how HPE OEM Solutions help Vital Images drive higher efficiency for serving patient
Visually accurate and clear medical images help improve patient outcomes. It’s as simple as that. From reducing recovery time for a knee replacement to saving the life of a critically ill patient, modern 3D and 4D images of anatomy and physiological functions enable doctors to make better diagnoses and, using advanced analytics, determine the optimal course of treatment. Vital Images, a Canon Group company, has been delivering these life-impacting capabilities for more than 30 years.
Jeremy Rollie, director of operations for Vital Images, points out that every hospital has different requirements, and Vital offers them flexibility to choose the optimal mix of capabilities from across the Vitrea solution suite. “Some hospitals may only need image viewing, some could just want to add orchestration, while others might need the complete end-to-end solution. We can bundle a complete turnkey solution for them that includes hardware and software, or provide software only. We look for the deployment scenario that gives our customers the best possible experience”, he said.
Choosing the right hardware platforms on which to bundle its turnkey solutions is critical for Vital. Image rendering demands high-performance servers that support graphics processing units (GPUs). Image orchestration requires servers to run numerous virtual machines (VMs). Server configurations must be optimized for each type of workload. As an HPE OEM partner, Vital can acquire the custom-tailored server configurations it needs—and quickly.
Working through the HPE OEM program, Rollie has defined four standardized stock-keeping units (SKUs) of HPE servers configured for specific customer use cases. One SKU provides an enterprise single server (ESS) for small to medium hospitals with limited resources who want to run everything—image viewing, orchestration, data storage, and reporting—all on a single platform. Three other SKUs are designed for larger deployments offering a dedicated server optimized for orchestration, or rendering server configurations for single or multiple user sessions.
For Vital, global technical support is another important advantage of being an HPE OEM partner. As a subsidiary of Canon Group, Vital works with other Canon Group subsidiaries to sell its standardized solutions to customers around the world. Warranty service delivered directly by HPE in-country provides these customers with confidence that these life-critical systems are running at their best.
Rollie concludes, “The biggest thing I can say about HPE is the attention they pay to their customers. It’s that quick turn-around time on products and service. And the technology is rock-solid. We have some customers that have been running our solutions on HPE servers for five or six years and have never been down. But when it’s needed, the service is phenomenal. HPE’s commitment to us as a customer is the best I’ve seen in the market.”
