How does Artificial Intelligence help the aerospace industry in productivity & innovation?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is no longer just a buzzword. Today, many industries are adopting this technology to leverage and grow their businesses. While AI can be applied to nearly every sector, once the technology advances enough, there are many fields that are expected to reap its benefits in the near future. Like every industry, the Aerospace and Defense sector isn't lagging behind in embracing this brilliant technology. Advances in AI is helping aerospace organizations optimize their manufacturing processes, impacting their efficiency, productivity and innovation.

There's been a rise in the demand for fuel in the aviation industry, hence conserving fuel has become a noteworthy concern for the sector. And AI has a central role to play in achieving that. AI helps the pilots to analyze the fuel system, system status, weather conditions and other major parameters. It helps in streamlining fuel utilization during the climb stage that can enable the pilots to preserve fuel during flights. Therefore, if utilized correctly, AI can improve fuel consumption and efficiency.

Airplanes are equipped with sensors that help pilots to measure speed, air pressure, and altitude. AI models here plays an important role in analyzing and collecting data to identify abnormal behavior in aircraft components. "For instance, sensors installed in turbines can collect data such as rotation speed, air pressure, and temperature of the component. The collected data can be used to train AI models about normal turbine behavior. By analyzing this data, AI models can detect when turbines stray away from their normal behavior and notify concerned personnel about possible defects". This enables airlines to identify any type of defect or issue and repair them prior.

As design and product development requires creativity, AI is able to assist in both. To create more efficient, lighter components that are crucial for an aircraft, manufacturers can use generative design along with AI algorithms. This way product designers are able to explore multiple design options in less time that is essential to develop new products.

Today, AI is bringing great changes and improvements in businesses, helping them explore various opportunities in the market and innovate new solutions for their business growth. At HPE, the OEM team has been consistent in driving innovation and Machine Learning that has opened up an accelerated path to stay ahead of the competition and further enhance the value of your solutions.
