How HPE OEM and financial services institutions partner to source technology platforms?
When a top-tier global investment bank decided to refresh its New York and London data centers, its primary objective was to maintainโor, even better, advanceโits competitive edge as an equities trader. The bank invited its technology partner to source, implement, and manage a new, high-speed platform for the bankโs traders to use when they conduct research and run transactions.
For the vendor, a leading provider of global financial services infrastructure products, the invitation was an exciting opportunity. Working with the bank to conduct the data center refresh would again demonstrate the vendorโs leadership and ability to deliver complex, cutting-edge financial services solutions on time and on a budget.
In addition, the vendor had to coordinate the hardware purchase, bare-metal build, and delivery. Because the bank operates globally, the provider needed to ensure the platform was supported regionally with consistent, standardized deliverables and service level agreements.
Product overview
The provider engaged with two partners to source, assemble, and ship the platformโs hardware. It worked with HPE OEM Solutions to identify the right hardware and support the build. Working with a team of HPE solutions, services, and supply chain specialists, the vendor selected a mix of 120 servers, including HPE ProLiant DL380 Gen10 servers, HPE ProLiant DL360 Gen10 servers, and HPE Apollo Gen10 systems.
The servers are backed with a three-year warranty from HPE Pointnext Tech Care. Under the guidance of the HPE OEM team, the provider decided to leverage a global reseller, as its channel partner. The reseller served as the importer of record, managing compliance with import laws.
It configured the servers up to the operating system level, and delivered them to the primary vendorโs deployment specialists, who are located on-site at the bankโs two data center locations. The global resellerโs global warranty, service levels, and pricing were integral to the projectโs success.
