HPE OEM partnership is a crucial component of our success, says Advantest
Advantest is the leading global producer of automatic test equipment for the semiconductor industry. Semiconductor chips are used in thousands of products, from personal computers and smartphones to medical devices and smart appliances. Advantestโs customers rely on its equipment to quality test its chips, ensuring that every product shipped meets rigorous quality standards. Advantestโs test cells generate gigabytes to petabytes of information. Its customers want to analyze that data and use it to test more efficiently, but such a massive volume of information is challenging to analyze effectively.
Advantestโs testing cells needed a second dedicated high-performance server-grade computer to meet those demandsโan edge server, which the company refers to as โACS Edge.โ The additional device runs machine learning algorithms parallel to the central command unit, taking on the work of data processing and analysis while maintaining a fast production rate. To power the new devices, Advantest needed servers that were powerful and reliable enough to work in tandem with its industrial-grade test cells. The answer was the HPE OEM program and the HPE ProLiant DL360 server.
Advantestโs needs were unique; the test cells have an exceptionally long lifespan, running for years or even decades on the factory floor. The company needed edge hardware that was reliable and stable, and could also provide the secure environment needed to deploy Advantestโs proprietary machine-learning algorithms. Server-class machines were the only option. Due to its global reach and robust product offerings, HPE OEM, specifically the HPE ProLiant DL360 server, was the right fit.
Wide-reaching infrastructure to support future growth:
As a global company, Advantest needed the broad footprint and full-service support that a partnership with Hewlett Packard Enterprise offered. Another significant deciding factor for Advantest was the clarity of communications and reliability of service from HPE, especially when dealing with unexpected difficulties and disruptions, such as supply chain disruption.
According to Amit Kucheriya, Program Director, ACS Edge, Advantest America, Inc, โThe options that we had at our disposal from HPE were far larger than any other company we evaluated. We wanted the possibility of growing with a single hardware supplierโ.
Driving customer value for greater profits:
Because Advantestโs customers see measurably improved outcomes from using ACS Edge servers, the company has seen enormous demand and quickly ramped up the partnership with HPE. This exciting new chapter for the company is still in its early days.
The server-powered ACS Edge servers are designed for easy deployment no matter what kind of product is being tested, meaning Advantest can scale them across nearly any use case. In the future, Advantest is looking into working with HPE OEM on additional computing needs that could be processed in the cloud and fogโrather than on the edgeโwhich has the company considering solutions from HPE GreenLake.
Whatever directions Advantest takes to help its customers gain more value from data, the security, reliability, and world-class service they receive from the HPE OEM partnership is a crucial component of its success.
