Turning Smart Cities into Intelligent Urban Ecosystems

To build a city that supports its citizens for decades to come, we need to identify what really matters and create an architectural framework that supports that vision. A smart city should be designed to achieve holistic objectives, focusing on intelligent urban ecosystem development.

Current smart city strategies are inadequate if governments, businesses, and citizens want to benefit from the broader value of an intelligent urban ecosystem. By 2050, seventy percent of the global population will live in urban areas. Fortunately, the digital revolution holds the promise for responding to the challenges created by inexorable urbanization.   1. GridComm- Here is another example of how HPE enabled GridComm's solutions to drive cost savings for a city's government. A typical city has 100,000 street lights that use approximately S$24 million of electricity per year. The cost to adoptgridComm's smart lighting system is about S$130 per street light - a total initial investment of upgrading all the lights in the city will run up to around S$13 million.

 

But with gridComm's smart lighting system in place, the city saves an estimated 50 percent on lighting costs, or S$12 million a year. GridComm started working with HPE in 2017 when we were selected as the first company to participate in HPE's InnovateNext programme," said the Chief Executive Officer of GridComm, Mr. Holt.
