10.20 root disk

Hi
I have inherited a box with a very unstable O/S. I need to get a copy of the root disk with a view to recreating it on another machine to work on the problems (patches etc). Is it possible to dd the root disk to another device and restore onto the other machine. I am sure in the dim and distant past I have done it with 11i but never with 10.20

Any help appreciated

Hi Adrian

Yes this is possible provided both the hardware are same.

You have to take a mirror copy of the existing root disk and take it to the second m/c.

Hi

Current root disk is mirrored (its so unstable they have not tried to boot from this). My plan was to dd copy the device
and copy back onto the disk in the spare machine.

Hi Adrin

Then first check out for any bad blocks in the existing device .If u have any bad blocks on this, Sory then even taking dd is not going to help you out.
