10.20 to 11.00 upgrade problem revisited

Gurus,

I have upgraded from 10.20 to 11.00 (not the best idea but nevertheless the situation) and am getting the following error when trying to export

exportfs error: /: Operation not supported

The filesystem exists. If I try a

/usr/bin/rpcinfo -p it shows portmapper running....Any ideas on what might be going on

Hi,

Do you have all NFS daemons working ?

Did you try entering inputs in /etc/exports file ?

Can you export the file system from SAM ?

Do you have all the latest NFS patches installed ?

Re: 10.20 to 11.00 upgrade problem revisited

/etc/exports file is fine. All NFS daemons running except rpcbind - The reason that this isn't running is because portmapper is running instead - Seems to be a legacy from the upgrade....I have copied over clean version of

nfs.core
nfs.server
nfs.client
/etc/service
/etc/protocols
nfsconf

from a working 11.00 machine. I have even removed NFS from the kernel subsystem and rebooted but the portmapper keeps loading - Where is it loading from and how do I stop it....Please

Daemons look OK except on any other machines I look at there is no portmapper on 11.00 - Only on 10.20 machines....How can I change this over to rpcbind...?????PLEASE

Brian

For the time you have spent chasing these problems is it not possible to do a fresh install of HP-UX 11.00.

I am doing that tommorow on a 10.20 server and estimate 4 hours max.

Re: 10.20 to 11.00 upgrade problem revisited

Brian-

are there any hints in the rc.log? In my log, under the nis.server start command, there is a reference to starting up the rpcbind. Maybe there is a clue there. the rpcbind is also in nis.client and nfs.client. There is also a DCE RPC daemon that is started in rc2.d. Ah, I'll just attach my rc.log. It'll be easier than writing it all down here.

Re: 10.20 to 11.00 upgrade problem revisited

It seems portmapper is still running, it may be due to old code is still in use. It could be due to UPGRADE process didn't clear up properly.

I feel by removing and reinstalling NFS subsystem alone form 11.x CD may helpful.

Re: 10.20 to 11.00 upgrade problem revisited

Thanks to all for your help - Due to time constraints and not too little pressure from the powers above me I have gone for the backup and clean blast of 11.00 onto the machine which is happily exporting NFS mounts now....Thanks again for your help - It would have been nice to have more time and try all avenues out but such is the world we live in - Go on "Looks Like Trouble" in the Gold Cup...
