100VG-AnyLAN on HPUX 11i

We have several old HP9000/J210 systems. Some have EISA 100VG cards (ioscan shows them as "EISA card HWP1990"). On HPUX 10.20, we installed the 100VG-AnyLAN software and a couple patches and these cards worked fine. Anyone know how to get them to work on HPUX 11i? We're using HPUX 11.11 on PA RISC 1.1d.

I contacted HP and the quick response was that 100VG cards aren't supported on HPUX 11i. Anyone know any better?

Re: 100VG-AnyLAN on HPUX 11i

While it is true that 100VG-AnyLAN is not available for 11.11, it is not true that no EISA cards are supported. EISA cards are not supported in 64-bit 11.anything.

If The Force is truly with you, you might try installing J2694BA from any 11.0 Application Set and set the swinstall flag to allow incomtpatible software. I really doubt that this is going to work. Your better option is to find an EISA 100Base-T card and use it. It will work at 100HD in 11.11. EISA cards will go out of support about June '04 so you really need to rethink the problem.

If you are determined to use your 100VG card then you are going top have to run no later then HP-UX 11.0.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Re: 100VG-AnyLAN on HPUX 11i

as of hp-ux 11.11, the 100VG-Anylan cards are no longer supported, and hence there is no software for these cards at 11.11 or above.

Tom,

you can still use this card with HP-UX 11.00, which claims it through the vglan0 driver, however, you cannot with HP-UX 11.11 since there is no vglan driver anymore.

I believe some time ago on a sandbox I even tried what Clay suggested (allow incompatible sw for install) and installed the 11.0 driver, but the kernel build would fail....

Bernhard

Thanks to all who provided answers. We'll come up with another solution until we can get funding to upgrade our 8-year old systems.
