11.23 Itanium Tape Recovery Error

I am sure others have seen this, but Itanium servers are new to me. I have a server that I am trying to run a test ignite tape recovery. Server is rx44*, running 11.23, ignite version: 6.7.79. I have made serveral tapes and tried diff. console connections, but always get the follow type errors when trying to recover from tape: ERROR: File: /usr/lib/hpux32/aries32.so not found (then two more lib* files list below, then goes into retry loop) What am I missing?

Re: 11.23 Itanium Tape Recovery Error

If you have one ignite tape then you can verify it this way from the command line:

mt -t /dev/rmt/0mn rew
mt -t /dev/rmt/0mn fsf 1
tar tvf /dev/rmt/0mn (to list)

You can also extract the whole tape or select files:

cd /tmp/make_tape
tar xvf /dev/rmt/0mn etc/services
tar xvf /dev/rmt/0mn

And how are you trying to recover? By interrupting the reboot with the tape in the drive and booting from the tape? Can you provide this procedure? Also, what has caused you to want to recover?

Re: 11.23 Itanium Tape Recovery Error

Dan,

I assume the Ignite tape was made on a hp-ux 11.23 server.
HP bundles ARIES on all HP-UX 11i operating environments, so users can simply install and run applications as they would on PA-RISC systems.

Re: 11.23 Itanium Tape Recovery Error

As I mentioned this is a 'test' ignite recovery. We have a couple of loaner Itanium servers and just simply chose now to test while in evaluation at my company. I did recover several times succussfully my new itanium ignite server running 11.23, but I have one loaner box that was pre-installed that is giving me trouble. Anyway, thanks for the input. FYI: I did notice that you must use: mt -f /dev/rmt/0mn fsf 22 (not 1) on Itanium which someone else in forums answered for me. Other than booting from DVD to get the tape recovery process going, it was pretty straight forward.

Re: 11.23 Itanium Tape Recovery Error

The last time I recovered 11.23 Itanium I had to boot from the install DVD and then recover from tape
