Re: 11.23 to 11.31 with DRD?
My last response in that thread still holds true.
Use DRD to clone your system disk, and then either update the current disk, with the clone as a backup, or activate and reboot to the clone, update, and test.
One thing with doing it the second way is you can use the white paper to increqase /stand on the clone if you are in an LVM environment

Re: 11.23 to 11.31 with DRD?
Thanks. I re-read your response this morning and realized exactly what you meant.
So the conclusion is that there is no way to update the inactive clone while leaving the system up and running 11.23.
It seems to me that this is exactly the sort of thing that DRD would be best for! Oh well.

Re: 11.23 to 11.31 with DRD?
The DRD-safe commands are the following:
*
swinstall
*
swremove
*
swlist
*
swmodify
*
swverify
*
swjob
*
kctune
*
update-ux
*
view

so it is worth to try.
Hope this helps!
Regards
Torsten.

Re: 11.23 to 11.31 with DRD?
With the HP-UX system administration toolset, Dynamic Root Disk (DRD), you can clone an HP-UX system image to an inactive disk. Then you can:
*
perform system maintenance on the clone while your HP-UX 11i system is online
*
update from an older version of HP-UX 11i v3 to HP-UX 11i v3 March 2009 (Update 4) or later
*
quickly re-boot during off hours once the desired changes have been made
*
utilize the clone for system recovery, if needed
...
http://docs.hp.com/en/5992-6552/ch04s10.html
It describes both, updating the inactive clone or updating the active system and keep the clone as fallback.

Hope this helps!

As I said, I was hoping someone else might have tried this previously but I can be the guinea pig if need be.

Obviously, you and I have great minds (though mine is also feeble) and the DRD folks do not.
