My system is currently at 11.22 v1.6, I need to upgrade to 11.23. My question is in regards to the upgrade guide and the subchapter "Standard HP-UX Bundle Considerations" under the main chapter "Choosing a migration Path". It says
that the "OnlineDiag" requires the Hardware Enablement (HWEnablemeni). I cannot find it on the core OS media ( and I have the OnlineDiag"
installed, yet the HWE* package is not? I am confused, does this pertain to
upgrades from 11.11 and not 11.22? The same goes for the QPK also. I do not have it installed. I do have a June 2003 Maintenace Package installed. The install guide is titled:
HP-UX 11i Version 2 Installation and Update Guide
http://docs.hp.com/cgi-bin/onlinedocs.py?mpn=5990-6728&service=hpux&path=00/00/17&title=HP-UX%2011i%20Version%202%20Installation%20and%20Update%20Guide
Thanks,
Randy

hi randy,
first off it sounds like you are using the HP-UX 11i Version 2 Installation and Update Guide with the HP-UX 11i v1.6 core OS media. the Install/Update Guide only applies to the OE media it was shipped with.
but let me provide some more clarification:
for 11.23, the HWEnable11i bundle and QPK bundles (if any) are always installed for a cold-install or an update. that means you do not have to select anything, they are automatically installed for you from the OE media when you cold install or update.
(you can find tables of core, always installed, default installed, and selectable software in appendix D: http://docs.hp.com/cgi-bin/onlinedocs.py?mpn=5990-6728&service=hpux&path=00/00/17&title=HP-UX%2011i%20Version%202%20Installation%20and%20Update%20Guide)
given the link you gave for the install/update guide, for the mar2004 OE media there is an HWE bundle and a QPKBASE bundle, but no QPKAPPS bundle.
fyi...the june 2003 maintpak does not contain these bundles with regard to an update to 11.23. it is the maintenance pack (patches) for hp-ux 11i v1.6 only.
so yes your initial statement is true that the onlinediag bundle does require the hardware enablement bundle, but when you perform a cold install or update with the 11.23 OE media, the hwe bundle (and any qpk bundles) will be automatically (always) installed for you.
please let me know if that answers your questions.
cheers,

Re: 11.23 upgrade requirements
The Quality Pack, Quartery Update, whatever you want to call it doesn't upgrade anything.
It installs vital patches your system nees to operate properly.
If the instrucions say the quality pack should be installed prior to the upgarde, then take that seriously. These updates are availble from the patch database link on http://itrc.hp.com
If not required, then upgrade off your chosen core OS set and handle the HWE Bundle and Quarterly update after the fact.

Re: 11.23 upgrade requirements
Laura,
Thanks for your help. I wasn't sure if the bundles were pre-req's to upgrade to 11.23
( my plan ). As I was having trouble locating them on the HP patch bundle website. But I understand now.
Thank you,
Randy
