11iv2 September 2006 release update

Looking for feedback from anyone that has had issue with this.

Typically a version update I would cold install.

Ran into an issue where the V3 of IVM required the Septmenber of 2006 11iv2 release so I am running update-ux instead of a cold.

1st server ( VMHost ) no problem.
2nd server ( vmguest) no problem.
3rd server ( was origionally built from clone image of 2nd awhile back ) This install blew after asking for the second CD.
There was a number of excludes in the log as the software was already there but the installer will not continue on.

I now have to rebuild the server from an Ignite image and start over.

Anyone else encounter such issues with this type of update ? BUMMER....

Re: 11iv2 September 2006 release update

updating HP-UX has not worked reliably for the last 15 years (before 10.00). It started failing big time during the days of 9.0 HP-UX. That's why the rule is: cold install or Ignite/UX. I think may have been a couple of successful updates on a very small workstation in the past.

Re: 11iv2 September 2006 release update

To expand on this item.

So, Even when HP releases an "update" release we are now in reinstall mode, as the upgrade path is bad.

I understand and completely agree with something like 11iv1 to 11iv2 for cold install, but for a service release.....

It would be fine if I stayed with the origional release and kept current with patches but in this case the new version of IVM requires ( and will not install ) if you are not on the Sept2006 release of HPUX 11iv2.

Any additional comments from anyone or am I preaching to the choir ?

Thanks !
