Re: 64 bit upgrade details
a number of documents exist on this.
It depends on the hardware you start of with.
One example is:
http://www.docs.hp.com/en/B3782-90728/ch04s04.html
Note: The consensus seems to be to backup your machine and do a cold install, rather than conversion.

Re: 64 bit upgrade details
The cold install option SEEMS to be the preferred option. But you can always search the newsgroup for more details/experiences.
Time taken depends on the system.
In my experience total time approx. 1 day.
Depending also on how fast YOU work! ;-)
Process is (in general terms):
1.backup your config and data
2.install the system from ignite or CD
3.configure and restore
Best to have a look at:

Re: 64 bit upgrade details
Stick the Core OS CD in the cd-rom.
Boot the box from the console.
interupt at the 10 second prompt
sea
A series of random access devices will be listed. One of them will be your cd-rom. You should look at an ioscan printout to figure out which is the cd-rom. Sometimes its stamped on the server.
Lets say the cd-rom is P4
bo P4
N, Don't interact.
You install the new os cold.
As of my last check there is no way to upgrade the os from 32 bits to 64 bits. The only path available is cold install as shown above.
Maybe upgrade/ux can do it, but I recall reading that it could not.

Re: 64 bit upgrade details
1) Hardware Platforms - OS Releases:
s700: 11.04
s800: 11.04
However, this system is B.11.00 E 9000 ...
2) The patch refers to 11.04 .. but i think we are upgrading to 11.03 64 bit.
Any ideas?

Re: 64 bit upgrade details
A patch for 11.04 will not work on 11.0. Also, therre is no such release as 11.03.
Tell us what model you system is (the results of the 'model' command) and we can tell if it will run 64-bit.

Re: 64 bit upgrade details
Model: 9000/888/C429-CO
This model# is not found in /etc/.supported_bits
Also, Is this the right upgrade doc? This refers 10.x to 11.00 upgrade. Is it the same as cold installing 64 bit?
http://docs.hp.com/en/5990-6721/ch01.html
Thanks again.

Re: 64 bit upgrade details
If you are running 11.0 now, do the following:
# getconf HW_CPU_SUPP_BITS
If it returns 32/64, then your machine is capable of running 32 or 64 bit HP-UX. If it returns only 32, then you can only run 32-bit HP-UX.
