A lil bit of help on a web site.

I am wondering if this is even possible. Maybe you all can help me.

I have created an Excel spreadsheet on my XP box (yuck), and saved it on a unix web server. I would like to be able to edit the spreadsheet on the webserver, and then save it. For some reason no matter which format I save the xls in on the unix station I can't save it. . . Is their anyway to do this?

Thanks
Fred

I have use Excel files as an ADO source on a Win 2K/IIS server, but not on Unix.

What webserver are you using on the unix box, and what are the permission on the excel file, the directory it is in, and in the webserver configuration for that directory?

Re: A lil bit of help on a web site.

Locate the spreadsheet on the Unix box.

Open up Samba/CIFS-9000 on the server.

In the smb.conf file make sure the spreadsheet location is shared.

create a userid password for the Windows user.

useradd spread
passwd spread

smbpasswd -a spread

Now that user can sign on with a mapped drive from the windows box, edit the spreadsheet and do save as on the workstation itself.

There is an overhead, and you'd better make sure the workstation is secure before you do this.
