Re: A quick question

Try using the drive again, with a new tape, and see if you get an error. If you do, log a hardware call with HP and get the drive replaced. If not, keep using it.

Re: A quick question

A quick answer:

The reason is either a real problem with the tape or drive or a false alert - consider the age of the diags -> Dec 2001.

Hope this helps!

Suggest running a quick check on the tape drive using stm (cstm, mstm or xstm). It is reporting hardware errors.

Re: A quick question

Razi,

As this is a tape drive problem.

check the cable connections on either side
any lights on the tape drive, any blinking, yellow/orange lights

check the status of the tape
mt /dev/rmt/0mn status
mt /dev/rmt/0mn rewoffl

put an EMPTY tape and tar some files to tape
are you able to tar cvf /dev/rmt/0mn /tmp/*.txt

try listing

tar tvf /dev/rmt/0mn
