The client wants to add a new project onto a existing server which is currently running SAS application and Oracle. This new project basically will pull out data from the other servers, update database, and ftp some files from other applications.
What I want to find out is how much cpu and memrory, as well as data sapce the new project will use. But I am not sure what is the appropriate questions should ask to the client. What(documents?) I need from them in order to proceed with the implementation of the project.
Thanks,

Re: add a new project on the K460 server
This is a project that sounds like it needs a replacement server, one that allows much arger memory, faster CPUs and perhaps a different disk or maybe an array.

Re: add a new project on the K460 server
How much CPU, memory and data space the new project will use depend on the requirement of the client.
You may probably have to get a statement of work from the client and proceed from there. Later, based on the client's requirements, you can come up with a recommendations document and get it approved from the client.
Enclosed, please find a sample statement of work.

Re: add a new project on the K460 server
To even have a chance at answering the question you need to know EXACTLY what needs to be done. You should be asking these questions to the people that are asking you to implement this. that said you can, practically, move it forwards in a few ways.
1 - Test your requirements (test/dev/system NOT LIVE). This will solidify the requirements VERY quickly. Once you have tested it it should be simple to say how much CPU/DISK/Network is required. This could be complicated as the answers could depend on the current working system, so you may need to replicate EVERY thing on the live system!!
2 - MeasureWare, measure what you are currently doing NOW. This may lead you to the conclusion, it can't be done!
I hope some of teh above helps

Tim

Re: add a new project on the K460 server
I did not make myself clear, so I'm trying it again here.
I'm not asking the exactly figure on the requirment of needed cpu/memory/disk from the new project, although I know this is something the client should provide to us.
Currently, the client just tell us they need to put the project on the box, and the project will pull data from other servers, it also needs update database and networking activity as well. I feel that is not enough, we need to know what exactly the impact on the box, and get a clear picture of what the project about.
But I don't know how to approach to the client, and what exactly I need from them.
There was a response which reffer me to a link about the project management, however, I could not find it today. Can this guy send me the linke again?
You probably still don't get what I'm asking, but this is the best I can do.
Thanks,

SolutionOK. Your second explanation is clear and I understand that you want to know the impact on HP-UX box after the project is created in the box. Also, you want to ask questions to the client and you feel that merely just creating a new project would not suffice.
You may want to have a look at this document HP-UX 11i Version 1 Installation and Update Guide on http://docs.hp.com. Probably this should help.

Also, do have a look at HP-UX 11i Release Notes. The link is
