Advice needed

We are using FC-AL in our environment, soon will be moving to Fabric.

As a hp-ux admin how much do I need to know about how FC works?

Thanks.

Re: Advice needed

Hi SM,

Not that much.
You should know the differences of fibre types & the associated connector types. You need to know the basic commands like fcmsutil & such.

But the biggest thing that you need to know is *which* fibre channel cards support switched fabric & which don't. For instance, the 3404 does NOT support switched fabric, but the 5158 does.

If you're to be responsible for installing, cabling, carving & zoning the arrays, then you'll need to know more than SAs who don't have this responsibility.

Re: Advice needed

Getting the Fabric card working isn't that hard at all. You get it installed, install the software, your machine boots, then its active.

I can't speak to the concept of setting up disks and making them available to various servers. We don't have HP disk. Most disk arrays have easy to use gui interfaces for everything except zoning.
