Alternative Routing configuration question

Hello,
I'm constructing a private lan between several unix servers using two lan cards on every one.
One goes to the genneral lan and the other goes to the private lan. How can I define a routing table that send the packages destinated to the private lan to the general lan card when this private lan card is down ?

Thank you very much

I am not an expert in this area but I think you could configure gated to periodically check the private lan and re-route traffic through the main lan when it goes down. We did this with our dual-attached FDDI cards. It isn't an easy task though and I cannot give you precise help.

Re: Alternative Routing configuration question

hi ,
i think it is not so difficult. what happens if you configure your Public net as your default_gateway, the private as another normal gateway with metric more than 1.

If this does'nt answer u'r question, please give me some more clarifications abt your setup, i am confident that i will be able to help you.

best of luck
