ansi display in 11i console

Hi! Ive just bought a c360 running hp-ux 11i and i am having a few teething troubles getting the applications i use to run. An application i use a lot is the irc client BitchX. It uses ansi fonts and the console in hp-ux doesnt, the characters are displayed wrong. Is there any way to change the console so that i can use ansi fonts? i also still like to use bbs's and i have the same problem here. i'm a newbie so sorry if there is a simple solution to this.

thanks for any help,
lewis smith.

Re: ansi display in 11i console

Hi Lewis,

I have seen this question before :-)

Could you check if you have a fontserver running ?

# ps -ef | grep xfs

and check the output from

# echo $TERM

Re: ansi display in 11i console

Hi Lewis

firstly for future reference you have posted this question on the wrong forum there is one specially for workstations running hpux.

when you refer to console do you really mean screen can you tell us what you have connected if it is a real console plugged into the serial port you wont have much look but if you have a screen plugged into the graphics adapter then we can help.

Re: ansi display in 11i console

Try setting the TERM variable

1. #export TERM=ansi
OR
2. #export TERM=vt100
OR
3. #export TERM=hp

Hope this helps you

Re: ansi display in 11i console

Are you using the graphics card and a monitor in the C360 as the console or a terminal connected to the RS-232 port? If you are using an HP terminal, it can be set to emulate the vt100 (ansi) escape sequences rather than hp escape sequences.
