Any limits on numbers of "lvol" in one volume group?

Hi,

Is their any limits on number of "lvol" in one volume group when you perform vgimport without map files after root crash.

Thanks in advance.
Thanks,

Mike

Re: Any limits on numbers of "lvol" in one volume group?

Hi Mike,

Generally the maximum number of LV in a single VG is 255. This value remains the same even if you are importing a volume group.

The difference using mapfile is, when '-m mapfile' option is specified along with 'vgimport' command, then LV names will be created according to naming conventions provided. Otherwise, LVM uses the standard naming conventions (lvol1, lvol2,lvol3 etc..)
