APA doesn't use Probe Packet?

Hi All,
I am investigating HP-UX APA(Auto Port Aggrigation) and its mechanism keeping network redundancy.

Intel ANS(Advanced Network Services) can use Probe packet for switch Active NIC.
Refer URL below:

HP APA has similar technology or not ?

Here's a pointer to a document that discusses APA:

http://docs.hp.com/en/J4240-90027/ch01s02.html

I downt see anything in there for "probe packet", but you may have more luck.

Tomoaki,

Not certain, but APA is in line with the IEEE 802.3ad Static and Dynamic Link Aggregation Standard which does not support probe packets, it uses a Link state mechanism instead.

I would suggesteed you get someone from HP to give you a definitive answer, maybe go through the response centre or you technical account manager.

Sorry for not being exact!
Tony
You CAN do that on HP

Hi Tony,
Thanks for you reply.
I think so too,but can't have confidence.

My workmate ask to HP Response center simultaneously.

Re: APA doesn't use Probe Packet?

HP APA's LAN_MONITOR mode does have a "polling" mechanism to detect the health of the interface. This mechanism is currently not robust enough to detect all the failures however, its used during failback to avoid pre-mature failback conditions. Failback is when the member interface that was down, comes back up and can be used as the "active" port.

Thanks,
