I have 4 LAN cards ( lan0 to lan3 ). How can I pair up lan0 & lan1 as an lan900? As of this time I only have one cable going to lan0, can I configure ahead before the other cable comes?
Thanks,
f. halili

Re: APA - need help in configuring
Best practice is to have the cables connected, and the switch configured so the same IP address can span multiple ports. This is not the default on most switches and to change it after APA configuration is likely to disrupt the connection.
A lot of network admins' don't understand this so pull a doc from docs.hp.com and make sure they understand. If you are on a hub this is not an issue and you can probably proceed before connecting cables. APA should configure under those cirumstances.

Re: APA - need help in configuring
what is the output of lanscan -q; ioscan -fnClan
need to configure files in /etc/rc.config.d
hpbtlanconf, hp_apaconf, hp_apaportconf, netconf
based on your network card hardware, edit corresponding files to make them 100Mbps.

Solutionthe interfaces should have the same configuration 'speed, duplex'
check switches : be carrefull trunks
## Mode Hot Standby
HP9000
| |
| +-----+
| |
sw1 sw2
- conf => /etc/rc.config.d/hp_apaportconf
HP_ APAPORT_ INTERFACE_ NAME[ 0]= lan0
HP_ APAPORT_ CONFIG_ MODE [0]= MANUAL
HP_ APAPORT_ PRIORITY [0]= 5
HP_ APAPORT_ INTERFACE_ NAME [1]= lan1
HP_ APAPORT_ CONFIG_ MODE [1]= MANUAL
HP_ APAPORT_ PRIORITY [1]= 3
- conf => /etc/rc.config.d/hp_apaconf
HP_ APA_ INTERFACE_ NAME[ 0]= lan900
HP_ APA_ LOAD_ BALANCE_ MODE[ 0]= LB_ MAC
HP_ APA_ HOT_ STANDBY[ 0]= on
HP_ APA_ MANUAL_ LA[ 0]="0,1"
- conf file /etc/rc.config.d/netconf
INTERFACE_ NAME[ 1]= lan900 (lan900 remplace lan0)
IP_ ADDRESS[ 1]= â celle associée à lan0 précédemmentâ
SUBNET_ MASK[ 1]=
BROADCAST_ ADDRESS[ 1]=""
INTERFACE_ STATE[ 1]=""
- reboot.
- keet a connaection with console, a trouble could be possible in editing file!
- check apa :
- lanscan -q ( show 900 0 1) if ok
- ifconfig lan900
- netstat -i
- unplug the right link in order to check the use of the other link
lanscan lan900, give mac-address in order card
## Mode Lan Monitor:
HP9000
| |
| +-----+
| |
sw1 ----- sw2
- check 2 interfaces config speed/duplex
- conf => /etc/rc.config.d/hp_apaportconf
HP_ APAPORT_ INTERFACE_ NAME[ 0]= lan0
HP_ APAPORT_ CONFIG_ MODE [0]= LAN_MONITOR
HP_ APAPORT_ PRIORITY [0]= 5
HP_ APAPORT_ INTERFACE_ NAME [1]= lan1
HP_ APAPORT_ CONFIG_ MODE [1]= LAN_MONITOR
HP_ APAPORT_ PRIORITY [1]= 3
- no trunking on switches ports
- check linkloop is fine with 2 interfaces lan0 et lan1
linkloop -i 0
linkloop -i 1
- create a config file lanconfig.ascii
lanqueryconf -s
- example /etc/lanmon/lanconfig.ascii
# ***********************************************************************
# *********** LAN MONITOR CONFIGURATION FILE *************
# *** For complete details about the parameters and how **
# *** to set them, consult the lanqueryconf(1m) manpage **
# *** or your manual. **
# ***********************************************************************
NODE_NAME xxxxxx
POLLING_INTERVAL 10000000
DEAD_COUNT 3
FAILOVER_GROUP lan900
STATIONARY_IP
PRIMARY lan0 5
STANDBY lan1 3
- Check the update:
lancheckconf
- create a failover group
lanapplyconf
- check the aggregate:
- lanscan -q
- netstat -in
By the way after fews test : the best way is for me use fail over method if you need agrragat, caus in other case the cost of aggregat could be higher than you expect gain. In fact if your chanel is not full use the cost to create the hash of the file is huge.
Best regards Thierry
