Are 11.11 software depots compatible with 11.23-PA-RISC ?

Can I install software depots build for 11.11 (e.g. gcc, binutil, sshd etc) on 11.23-PA-RISC platform ?

We are building software for 11.11 platform, we plan to release one build (11.11) for both 11.11 and 11.23 PA-RISC plaforms.
Do we need to take any cautions in order to support both 11.11 and 11.23 PA-RISC platforms ?

No you can't.
You must download the binaries for 11.23

No, You cant install 11.11 depots on 11.23 PA. You need to make your PSF files and control scripts such a way that it recognizes both OS and installs corresponding binaries in correct place.

Hi,

The version is already different.
The 11.23 version is already with additional features, since this version allowed to run on Itanium server also.

The software comes for its version, so you need to have the matched version between the application and the operating system to work together.

Even for 11.00 & 11.11, the application software have their own binaries that fit with the version of OS.

11.23 PA is built from 11.23 Itanium code base. Its better to have native binaries in 11.23 PA than running a 11.11. I think, 11.23 PA uses Aries emulator for running 11.11 binaries.

According to http://docs.hp.com/en/5991-1101/ch02s07.html , in the "Compatibility across Operating System Releases" section; it said:
" The binary compatibility does not apply to kernel-intrusive application or applications that rely on proprietary data structure inside HP-UX"

Do PAM/NSS apps fall into the categories ?

I hope PAM/NSS falls into that category since those are tightly integrated with OS. Anyways, please double check with HP support.

Binary headers will be differed based on os and software depot packages. Packages for gcc are available in,

portals.

It will be applicable to PAM and NSS too.
