How to duplicate a ignite-UX tape?

Hi,

Is there a way to duplicate an ignite-UX tape onto another tape using only 1 tape drive?

Joshua,

You could always run make_tape_recovery again!

I haven't tried this myself, but look like this method will work (TKB #KNC032098003):

I've never tried on an ignite tape, but for other tape dd to a file, then back works.

It there are eof markers on the tape, you may have to use the no rewind tape device and multiple dd's.

insert Ignite tape
mt -f /dev/rmt/0m rewind
Hi,

dd if=/dev/rmt/0mn of=/big_dir/firstfile bs=2k
dd if=/dev/rmt/0mn of=/big_dir/secondfile bs=10k
mt -f /dev/rmt/0m rewind
mt -f /dev/rmt/0m offl

insert blank tape
mt -f /dev/rmt/0m rewind
dd if=/big_dir/firstfile of=/dev/rmt/0mn bs=2k
dd if=/big_dir/secondfile of=/dev/rmt/0mn bs=10k
mt -f /dev/rmt/0m rewind
mt -f /dev/rmt/0m offl

I have used this procedure and can assure you it works.

dd will work, but I don't trust it.

I don't know if HP supports doing that.

IF you do that, you must test the duplicate and see if you can boot and restore off it.

Its easier to do as Pete Recommends and merely run make_tape_recovery again.

That is what HP recommends, and it doesn't hurt your system to do that. Barely breaks a into a sweat.
