B8725AA A.02.01.01 HP CIFS Server - SWAT problems

I just installed this version of CIFS along with the prerequisite:
J4269AA B.03.30.01 LDAP-UX Integration

Now I keep getting "401 Bad Authorization" Bad username or password when trying to access SWAT vi IE. I also did an smbpasswd for my root account and modified such password, but I'm still getting the 401 Bad Authorization error.

The root account did deactivate at one time, but I have reactivated it.

Any suggstions to get SWAT working via the IE browser?

I read somewhere where SWAT will not work on trusted systems? Is this true? Ours is trusted.

Re: B8725AA A.02.01.01 HP CIFS Server - SWAT problems

samba/swat works on all our trusted systems - so that's not the problem.

I'm searching for a similar situation that I might have run into .....

Re: B8725AA A.02.01.01 HP CIFS Server - SWAT problems

I untrusted our system and it worked. Then re-trusted our system and it did not work.
See:

This is the latest version of CIFS also. SWAT worked w/ trusted sytems with our prior version.

Well I learned not to upgrade to the newest version of samba from this little thread.

Thanks for the heads up.

Re: B8725AA A.02.01.01 HP CIFS Server - SWAT problems

Joe,

I've Samba(3.0.10) running on a trusted system.
Didn't use CIFS, but downloaded samba from http://us4.samba.org/samba/ftp/Binary_Packages/hp/
Didn't had any problems with swat on the trusted system.

Good luck,

Re: B8725AA A.02.01.01 HP CIFS Server - SWAT problems

I think that HP's CIFS/9000 Server which is based on Samba 3.0.7 should work.

As a matter of fact, Samba shares on my rp5450 servers at work were fine on version 2.2j and 3.0.7. All three systems were trusted.

It may be the LDAP portion that is blowing up. Are you actually doing LDAP or is it just installed.

LDAP is just installed now for possible future use.

Joe you are right that SWAT is not supported on trusted systems. There is an enhancement request pending, JAGaf51687. You will need to either edit smb.conf directly or temporarily untrust your system.

Re: B8725AA A.02.01.01 HP CIFS Server - SWAT problems

Sorry for the confustion. SWAT simply won't work on a trusted system. I meant that if you have ANY Samba configuration changes that you'll have to edit smb.conf through some other interface like vi via telnet. There is a proposed CIFS Server code fix that should permit SWAT to work on a trusted system that will likely be in the next CIFS release. I don't know when that will be. If you have a support contract, you can monitor the status with CHART CR JAGaf51687. Otherwise, check for a new CIFS Server release version on software.hp.com over the next few months.

Re: B8725AA A.02.01.01 HP CIFS Server - SWAT problems

Anyone seen anyprogress on this ? Is the final answer that this version of SWAT does not work ? SWAT is using PAM and and/or PAM has a problem ?

Same errors.

Joe,
Was it something special that HP sent you ? The patch does not show up in the patch search on ITRC.

Got any idea ?

I submitted my issue w/ HP and they sent me the patch. Log a call w/ HP and mention the patch. They will send it to you. Unfortunately, I can't find it to attach here.
