Hi

I you backup onto a DLT III tape on the 8000 then the restore on the 7000 you should have no problems.

Hi Campbell,
You meant you didn't need to do anything before. I've tried when I put media that backed from DLT8000 to DLT7000 drive, after that the drive have alerted sound then LED indecated need to cleaning.

As I know we need to create device file simulate to DLT7000 drive.

Please suggest,
Worapoj

Hi

If you use a 7000 tape in the 8000 drive then the 8000 will use that tape format.

Re: Backed up from DLT8000 restore to DLT7000, how to do?

Hello,

Yes you're right; media written from a DLT8000 can't be read into a DLT7000. But... they write using the same format. So you can reduce the speed of the DLT8000 drive to make it think it's a DLT7000 drive; then you can read that tape on a normal DLT7000.

Writing on Tape III forces the DLT8000 drive to write in DLT7000 format automatically.
