cifsserver / samba

cifsserver / samba

Hello, I have a problem with a WinNT 3.51 client managing data on our cifsserver (hpux 11 cifs A.01.07 = samba 2.0.9). This client can create new files but can not delete any file nor overwrite an existing file (Win2k clients dont have any problems). The error message is "The mounted file system does not support extended attributes". Any suggestions?

Re: cifsserver / samba

The only thing I can come up with is some recent changes in Samba regarding extended attributes and ACL lists.

If you dare, try compiling your own Samba version 2.2.3a, which has the latest changes for HP-UX from ftp://ftp.samba.org/pub/samba/samba-2.2.3a.tar.gz

Re: cifsserver / samba

Ahh, forgot to mention, precompiled binary packages for HP-UX can also be found on ftp://ftp.samba.org/pub/samba/bin-pkgs/hp/ something likely to be more up to date than HP's patches.

A software depot ready to install is ftp://ftp.samba.org/pub/samba/bin-pkgs/hp/samba2.2.3a/samba.depot

Good luck

Peter-

It might also be an issue with winNT (since it is such an old version). We have NT 4.0 service pack 6, and don't have any problems. It might not be possible, but upgrading NT might solve your problems.

Re: cifsserver / samba

Hi Peter,

I agree with Mark, I have the same configuration like you on the server side :
HP-UX 11.0 cifs A.01.07 = samba 2.0.9)

And I tested with Windows 2000 Server and Professional and Windows NT 4.0 Workstation SP 5 and it works fine.

So try to upgrade your Windows NT 3.51 to 4.0, this would solve your problem.
