backup good?

My "make_tape_recovery" command finished as:

pax: write : I/O error
pax: A write error has occurred.
WARNING: The pax command returned a non-zero exit status (exit status 1)
* Creation of system archive complete

Is the backup a complete failure?

Thanks,
Randy

Re: backup good?

Additional input from the log file:

* Archiving contents of athens via tar image to local device/dev/rmt/0mn.
/opt/ignite/data/scripts/make_sys_image[13]: print: A specified flag is not valid for
this command.
Continuing
pax: write : I/O error
pax: A write error has occurred.

The original command was:

make_tape_recovery -v -A -I -x exclude=/tmp_mnt -x exclude=/tmp -x exclude=/var/tmp -a /dev/rmt/0mn

Re: backup good?

I would not bet my system's recoverability on this tape if I were you. Looks like, dependign on where in the process this error message was spit out, system has encountered a bad block on your tape and aborted. Even if this message showed up at the end of the process, I would go ahead and run the same command against a new tape cartridge. Last thing you want to find out is that your recovery bootable tape is not.

Re: backup good?

It was at the end of the backup. I'll run
through it one more time.

Thanks,

This can be fixed by cleaning your drive first.

Re: backup good?

The problem is - you need to have large-files set on your ignite server's file-system. Most likely, its doing a write and failing on IO.

mount your ignite filesystem with the large-files option in the /etc/fstab.
