Backup LAN Card(s) in case of multiple active LAN Cards connected to different HUBs
in my system there are 8 configured LAN cards:
1st for IP, 2nd for heartbeat, 3rd for RETIX (proprietary protocol), 4th for RETIX, 5th for RETIX, 6th for backup, 7th for backup, 8th for backup.
Each IP / RETIX LAN Card is connected to a different HUB, so interfacing different networks (not connected); so, i cannot use only one backup lan card because it should be connected either to one HUB or to another one ...
My question is:
can I decide / configure which backup lan card protects an active lan card? i.e. can I configure a relation between active and backup lan cards?
thanks
Enric

Re: Backup LAN Card(s) in case of multiple active LAN Cards connected to different HUBs
I don't think there is any configuration parameter where you can specify the lan failover order. However the lan failover to the secondary will take place only if the secondary is active. I mean to say to say that the seconday should be connected to the network and active. I don't think there is any place in the packge conf file to specify the failover lan order, but i may be wrong.
You cannot have the secondary on the same subnet, because the ip address is not assigned to the secondary ane the seconday will take over the ip address of the failed lan card. So you can have multiple subnets on your system say 5 subnets and onlt one secondary. In case of the failure of one lan port of whichever subnet, the ip address of the failed lan port will bind to the seconday lan port.
Hope this helps.

Re: Backup LAN Card(s) in case of multiple active LAN Cards connected to different HUBs
If I well understood:
* there are no mechanisms to establish an association between active lancard and backup lancard
* the backup lancard to recover the fault of an active one is chosen according to the configured subnet of the backup lancard, so ...
* if I need several backup lancards because I'm using several active cards connected to different subnetworks, then it's enough to connect properly the backup lancards to the subnetwors, i.e. the chosen backup lancard will be that one connected to the same subnetwork of the active fault.
Maybe my powerpoint slide can better explain my concepts.
Thans again!
