Backup OS with Ignite

Hi.

Can I backup my OS(HP-UX 11.32) by Ignite-UX? If so, how? (some links for docs, or something else)

Re: Backup OS with Ignite

I guess HP-UX 11.31, yes you can backup your OS.

Common HP-UX backup tool is Ignite-UX: http://docs.hp.com/en/IUX/

Re: Backup OS with Ignite

Yes you can, but it is not very efficient and ignite is not designed to be a backup solution. It is there to recover your system if it crashes and becomes unbootable. If you are thinking about using it as a total backup solution, as in operating system and user data, I'd strongly suggest that you re-evaluate this thought.

Re: Backup OS with Ignite

hi,

the download source for Ignite-UX,

http://h20392.www2.hp.com/portal/swdepot/displayProductInfo.do?productNumber=IGNITEUXB

there is also a documentation and supported version......

The Ignite is designed for backup/restore/clone the HP-UX system

Re: Backup OS with Ignite

make_net_recovery and make_tape_recovery are designed for recovery of a failed system, and create a bootable installable image of your OS. Typically these are used just to get the OS back to functionality, while 3rd party tools such as Netbackup, TSM, etc. are used for data recovery.

For cloning purposes, you can use make_sys_image to create a non-system specific OS image and install this via Ignite-UX.

Re: Backup OS with Ignite

or if your server's OS disks are on SAN Arrays - Simply do a Clone on the backend.

OR:

dd if=/dev/rdisk/diskNN of=/somewhere/osbakup.ddcopy bs=1024k

OR:

drdclone to another disk on your system for Quick FallBack.
