Re: best the auto negotiation?

Hi:

Most prefer *not* to auto-negotiate. Set your switch and your LAN to 100MB full duplex.

Re: best the auto negotiation?

For 100 BaseT NIcs, the standard recommendation is to force both the NIC and the port on the switch it is connect to to 100 MB/s Full Duplex No Autonegotiate.

Re: best the auto negotiation?

1000 BaseT Must have auto negotiate.

I'm getting away with Auto Negotiate at home on a Dell Switch with a GSC 100 BaseT card.

If the switch is Cisco, hard code the speed on the switch and in the configuration file. Go manual.

Re: best the auto negotiation?

Hello!

The best is to set the speed for the network
(switch & NICs) so set to 100 FD

Re: best the auto negotiation?

You will be far better served to hard set both ends of the connection. There was and is an ambiguity in the standards for auto-negotiation; at certain cable lengths (35-41m) the negotiation can fail and leave one end at full duplex while the other is at half-duplex.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.
