Hi there,
we have two dns servers ( one internal and one external )
Internal we do dns request for the internal systems and external we do request for systems on the internet.
Now we want to FORWARD request for the internet from the internal to the external dns server.
Internal we have bind 9.1.x and external we have bind 4.x
When i do a nslookup and give the ip adress of the external dns server the query works, but when i do nslookup whiteout the ip adress of the external dns server it does not work.
Can someone tell me how to configure this on the internal as well the external dns server.
Greetings Mattie Van de Wall

Solution
To foward questions for domains you don't answer for, add the following entry in the options section of named.conf :-
forwarders { ip address of external server; };
ie
forwarders { 100.100.100.1; };
I would look to update your version of bind on the external server to fix a few security issues in bind 4.
HTH,
Dave.

Re: BIND 9.1.x under HP-UX 11.x
In named.conf you would have ..
options {
forwarders { };
};
Enter the IP addr of the external DNS server in the "{ }" and then restart named.
