Install OS from a remote cdrom

Hello,

I have an old 9000/H40 and I need to reinstall the os. This server has only a dds and the original os tapes are missing and I have no way to attach an external scsi cd.
Is there any way that I can install from a remote cd over the network please ?

Thank you

Re: Install OS from a remote cdrom

Hi,

yes, you can do this!
Install the "Ignite/UX" server on another HP-UX-system (hopefully in the same LAN, else you'll need a so-called "BOOTP-helper" in the LAN of the machine to be installed, but that's simply a standard HP-UX "bootpd" with a special configuration).
Ignite/UX server needs about 40MB on that machine, since you can tell it to use the HP-UX core/install CD-ROM from the local CD-ROM drive (instead of copying it to the local hard disks). You may uninstall the server later, if you do not need it any more - and it is *free* (and supported by HP!).
Get it from :

Hi Rafael

You may try to create a ignite tape and use taht media to boot on the old server , I am just guessing the options , try using inetractive options from a similar server , that way you will by pass the CD Stuff

Re: Install OS from a remote cdrom

Thank you for the answers

I was able to install from a ignite tape. Unfortunately I had no ignite tape from a server of similar characteristics so I had to do it from a K360 and correct the differences later. This server will be used only for a test of some days so I will try to use it with this installation and later I will try to get the DDS tapes
