Boot in single user mode

I have a C100 machine we aquired from another location. I want to boot it in single user mode. Is it possible to boot in single user mode when first powering on the machine.

Re: Boot in single user mode

Ron,

Sure - interrupt the boot at the "10 second" prompt. At the isl prompt enter "hpux -is". This will bring you up in true single user mode.

Re: Boot in single user mode

yes it is

probably the easiest is to interrupt the autoboot. when the screen reads:

to discontinue, press any key within 10 seconds

press key to get to the main menu.

then boot the primary boot device
bo pri

when the screen prints
interact with IPL (y/n/q)?

type y

at the ISL> prompt type hpux -is

Hello!

Go to the machine boot it and enter the
ISL mode on
then do hpux -is and you will enter the single mode.

Re: Boot in single user mode

On the ISL prompt :

hpux -is

OR from the command prompt issue the following the system will enter the single user mode.

#shutdown -r 1

Re: Boot in single user mode

Interupt at the 10 second prompt like it says at boot.

bo hpux

Interact with the ISL prompt Y

hpux -is

It is possible though that single user mode was password protected.

What you should really do is:

Interupt at the 10 second prompt.

sea

Stick a core OS CD in th CD-ROM.

bo p#

replace the # with the correct number.

Whatever data was on the machine isn't particularly useful unless of course it was within your own company.
