But trying to boot from these tapes, I always get the error above. I cannot interact with IPL, the error must be earlier.
As I would realy like to use Ignite to simplify my installations, (Cloning systems to be shipped to customers) I will appreciate any suggestions to find the problem.

Are you sure that you specified the no-rewind option (e.g. /dev/rmt/0mn) when you created the tape?

thanks for your answer, I do use a non rewind tape. I can even read back the content of the tape using the dd command and check it with lifls -l and the output looks like before the copying to tape.

Has anybody a clou what this IPL error Status -5 Unrecoverable data error, refers to ? Where do I have to look for the problem?
