Booting up!
Hello,
I have a question and was wondering if you
could help me out:
I have a HP 9000 K216 model, it came with a
power supply, CD-ROM, DSD tape,
6 disks and couple of cpu's.
I need to find out if the system boots,
does it
have an operating
system, how to switch it on, is it a dead or
working box? What is the best way to
check the
system
configuration on the machine such as
number of
cpu's, number of disks. I am assuming on a
HP-UX system the
command :
uname -sr will give the version of the HP
Operating System running on
the system.
Can you please walk me through this.
Your help
will be appreciated.
Look forward to hearing from you.
Thanks in Advance,
-Roger

Re: Booting up!
If ignite was installed you can do a "print_manifest" to see the system information, if not you can go through "sam" to get you information.

Re: Booting up!
Thanks for your response.
I have a regular 14 inch monitor "KFC"
is the brand. It's a cheap monitor. My goal
is to find out if it is a dead or working box?
This particular monitor will allow me to
do this as soon as I connect to the
HP 9000 K216 model? Is that correct?
Look forward to your response.
Thanks,
-Roger

Re: Booting up!
Legally, you have to have a licensed copy of hpux, and because of that I'd suggest you contact your local HP office for assistance.

Re: Booting up!
The box was acquired.
Does a K216 model for a HP 9000 system
exist or is it a K210? It's about 6 feet tall.
It came with a power supply, cd-rom, DSD
tape, 6 disks and a couple of cpu's.
What are your thoughts?
Thanks,
-Roger

Re: Booting up!
1. Connect the power.
2. Connect the console.
3. Turn the power-on console, then server.
4. Wait... When you see the message about press any key to interupt boot, hit any key.
5. bo pri, answer yes to interact with isl (i think it's isl).
6. at prompt enter "hpux -is"
7. If the system comes up, you have a working OS.
8. If you want to take a look at what the system has I would edit the /etc/passwd file to remove the current password for root, file #2 root:
9. do "shutdown -r -y 0"
10. Once the System comes up do: uname -a
11. ioscan -fun
12. dmesg | more
13. sysdef
14. top -d 1
Now you should have enough information to make an educated guess at what the system has, if it will work for you needs. If so buy the software. What do you plan on using the box for may I ask?

Re: Booting up!
K210, not K216. Of course the k-class model's can also run MPE (HP3000).
