btlan3 driver,100BT Ethernet card, and DMA timeout error
Our A-500 server networking was working fine until after a improper shutdown(the power was switched off), the machine's LAN card/TCPIP stopped working. 'lanscan' and 'lanadmin' detect the card, but any changes to speed or duplex state are not updated. The card setting always remains at "100 Half-Duplex". I also tried with all options in /etc/rc.config.d/hpbase100conf. The messages in syslog are :-
------------------------------------------
btlan3:NOTE:MII Link Status Not Ok: Switch connection to AUI at 0/0/0/0
btlan3:timeout:DMA timeout occurred at 0/0/0/0
btlan3:reset state is 550 at 0/0/0/0
btlan3:warning: AUI loopback failed at 0/0/0/0
-------------------------------------------
Is this a software or hardware problem ? Has the card gone bad/loose?
thanks,
Shankar

Re: btlan3 driver,100BT Ethernet card, and DMA timeout error
I would suggest you start by changing the port on the hub/switch taht he cable is connected to. If this does not resolve it, then try a known working cable. If this still does noit resolve it, you may need to get the hardware checked out.
Also ensure you sre patched up to the latest patch bundle as this could also influendce what you are seeing.

Re: btlan3 driver,100BT Ethernet card, and DMA timeout error
I have tried out with many different cables & ports. But there is no change. I then connected the machine to a small 8 port hub. After this, when I issue the command :-
$lanadmin -X 100FD lan0
the link lights in the hub glow for about 10-15 seconds and then they die down. The setting always remains at 100 Half-Duplex auto neg OFF.
Thanks for your help. I will search the patch database.

Re: btlan3 driver,100BT Ethernet card, and DMA timeout error
Shankar,
You are unable to switch to 100Full because of a usage error in the lanadmin command:
$ lanadmin -X 100FD lan0
This should be lanadmin -X 100FD 0 <-- NOT lan0
The btlan3 messages hint that the card was not sensing a connection to the network.

Hope this helps,
