Building 64-bit system (A500) from 32-bit Ignite tape (D230)

I have an Ignite bootable tape (created with make_tape_recovery from Ignite version B.3.7.96) from a D230 system (32-bit 11i) that I want to use to build an A500 system (64-bit only).

Is there any way to use this 32-bit-kernel tape on a 64-bit machine? Is there some option I can use either while creating the recovery tape, or when doing an Advanced installation, to make this work?

no, you cannot do this, it needs to be a 64bit version of the OS

These systems are far too different. After doing a cold install, you could extract files/data from your Ignite tape.
If it ain't broke, I can fix that.

Sorry - ain't gonna happen.
Ignite only works across "similar" systems.
You can get away with an L -> N scenario, but not a V-class -> SuperDome for example.

Your only hope is to build an Ignite Golden Image on the D230.

That is less hardware dependent and may enable you to migrate os software and configuration.

Re: Building 64-bit system (A500) from 32-bit Ignite tape (D230)

Even if you were porting the D230 Ignite tape to an A400 32-bit system, it would barely function. While Ignite does a good job in restoring the kernel and the subsystems, it will only restore the drivers that were in the D230 kernel. The architecture (backplane addressing, I/O cards, etc) are all very different. And the VERY old version of Ignite/UX simply knows nothing about new hardware. The latest version of Ignite/UX must always be downloaded whenever you have a new computer, new disks or arrays and new tape drives.

OK, I'm reading between the lines here and sensing that what I'm asking for can't be done. Just come out and say it, folks! :)

After posting this I realized I have access to an A500 that already has most of what I need, so I'll be using that as my recovery source.

I realize that the lastest version of Ingite won't help me in this case, but I'll download it anyway.
