call to flex API is very slow

Hi,

I have a MOTIF based application and on one HP host, the launching of the application is very slow. It takes more than 5 minutes to launch the application.

Please help me out in solving this problem.

If I have the flexlm license running locally on the same host, the application launch is fast and normal, if it is on a remote host, then it takes around 5 minutes to launch the application.

If I add an entry for the license server host in my /etc/hosts file, the application launches normally.We use the NIS to do the name resolution

so from your earlier thread it was established that NIS was the problem.

You could change the nsswitch.conf to use NIS as secondary and maintain the /etc/hosts file.

Have you tried adding the NIS route to the routing tables?

Peter Godron,

adding the entry to the /etc/hosts is not acceptable to the customer as he would have to modify the file on hundreds of hosts.

is there a better way?

ok, based on your two posts, the problem revolves around the flex license server and nis performance.

then, as noted in the other post, I'd check forward and reverse lookups on the the server running the license manager.
