Can not boot from the tape

HP11.00

I was trying to test make_recovery process
on the new L1000 server.
Created full backup using OmniBack, make_recovery tape on the Ultrium 215
drive, removed /stand directory and tried to boot using the tape.
To my suprise I found out that there is no sequntial access media, tried few thing like to boot by specifinig the hw path,etc.. but it did not work.

HP claims that Ultrium drive is not supportd
as bootable device.

Does anybody heard it differnet ?
Dies abtbidt have a solution to it ?
Is there a way to rebuild/copy the /stand directoy from CD without reinstalling OS ?

Re: Can not boot from the tape

Hi
Derek
At present the drive is not supported.

The contents of the stand directory - vmunix etc is built dependant up on your server and its configuration and your kernel settings.

This sounds like a test server so bite the bullit and do a fresh install.

Re: Can not boot from the tape

According to the make_recvoery man page...

make_recovery creates recovery tapes for all DDS tape devices. This
includes DDS1, DDS2, DDS3 and DDS4. If the recovery tape will be used
on a system other than the one it was created on, that system should
have the same kind of DDS drive. It is safe to use a DDS3 tape device
if the tape will only be used to recover that system or others with
DDS3 tape devices. To maximize performance, DDS3 devices must be used
along with DDS3 tapes. When portable tapes are needed, it is best to
use mksf to create DDS1 device files, so that the tape can be used on
any DDS device. For DDS4 tape devices, please note the restrictions
on DDS media compatibility, especially those involving DDS1 media.

Hope this helps.
