Can't copy, cut and paste in dtpad when use ReflectionX and HPUX 11.00

Hi,

Does anyone have any comments on this situation:

When use ReflectionX to connect to HPUX 11.00 boxes, the copy, cut and paste won't work. But when use the same ReflextionX client connect to HPUX10.20 boxes, everything works fine. I searched around in the Tech Knowlege base, but could not find any good hits.

Thanks.

We use ReflectionX on HP-UX 11 and the cut and paste work fine. I cant remember if I had to tweek something on the reflection setup to do this or not. You right click on a window (eg. dtterm) and then use the options Edit->Copy X selection/Paste to X selection. This is not working ?

Let us know and I can send you our Reflection setup if you want.

from Reflection Reference manual :

You can paste text from one X client to another. There are several methods for doing this. Using the X Window System copy and paste method is the most straightforward approach, and will work in most cases. Click here for information about alternative methods for copying and pasting text between X clients.

1 Select text in an X client.

In most X clients, you select text by dragging with the left mouse button.

2 Make the other client your active window by clicking on it with the left mouse button. (If you have Focus follows mouse selected, just move the mouse pointer to the other client's window.)

3 To paste the selection, use the Edit Paste command or its equivalent if the client has one.

For clients without a Paste command (such as xterm) press the left and right mouse buttons at the same time; or, if you have a three-button mouse, press the middle button.

Your selection is pasted into the second client. The insertion point is the position of the cursor.

Note: This method will not work with some clients, and you will need to use one of several alternative methods. For example, if you're pasting into the cmdtool utility on a Sun workstation, you need to copy text from another client, task switch from Reflection X to another Windows application, switch back to Reflection X, and then paste into cmdtool. Click here for more information.

These steps describe how to paste a text selection from a Microsoft Windows application into an X client:

1 In the Clipboard Settings dialog box, make sure the Windows Clipboard owns selection check box is selected.

2 Start a Microsoft Windows application that handles text, such as Notepad (a Windows accessory).

3 Open an existing file, or put some text on the screen. Select a block of text and copy it (press Ctrl+C).

4 Start an xterm (or hpterm) with Reflection X.

5 If you have a two-button mouse, press the left and right buttons at the same time in the xterm window (if you have a three-button mouse, just press the middle button). The block of text you selected in the Windows application is pasted into the xterm at the cursor position.

You can paste text from an X client into Windows applications using the Windows Clipboard.

The following steps describe how to paste a text selection from an X client into a Windows application:

1 In the X client, select a block of text by holding down the left mouse button and dragging the mouse over the text.

2 From the Reflection X Control menu, choose Copy Selection.

3 In the Copy Selection dialog box, select Clipboard in the Copy to area.

4 In the Copy from area, specify the X selection that the X client uses for storing selections (most clients use PRIMARY, CLIPBOARD, or CUT_BUFFER0). Choose OK.

5 Switch to the Windows application into which you want to paste text.

6 Use the application's Paste command (usually on the Edit menu) to paste the text.

If you have trouble pasting to a Windows application, open the Windows Clipboard ( or ClipBook) Viewer and try copying different X selections using the Copy Selection command until the text appears in the Clipboard. Note that the selected text from the X client is not copied to the Windows Clipboard until you switch away from Reflection X.

Instead of using the Copy Selection command, you can instead set the Selection bound to clipboard setting (in the Clipboard Settings dialog box) to the X atom used by the client from which you want to paste. After you have done this, any text you select in that client is copied to the Windows Clipboard.

If the above methods don't work it might be worth speaking to wrq support ?

Re: Can't copy, cut and paste in dtpad when use ReflectionX and HPUX 11.00

Hi Stefan, Alex:

Thanks for your suggestions. The following is some details about the problem I got:

1. When I use hpterm to connect to the server, the text editor works fine. I can do the cut, copy and paste .

2. The problem only appears when I use 'XDMCP direct connection' to a HP11.00 server. After log into a server, start up a text editor session (from the CDE), I CAN'T do the cut, copy and paste on the SAME editor. But if I open up 2 text editors at the same time, I can cut, copy and paste from one to the other, but not in the same editor.

Again, this problem only happens on all the HP11.00 boxes, the 10.20s are fine.

Re: Can't copy, cut and paste in dtpad when use ReflectionX and HPUX 11.00

Have you had any luck on resolving this?
Whe have the same problem.

I also cannot get dtpad Menu items of cut/paste to work on hpux 11 under reflections X.

My work around is to select the text, move cursor to where I want to insert and then hit both mouse keys. I then go back and delete the original line.

Reflections X with dtpad works fine with 10.20.

Hi

Saw something similar once so look at the ReflectionX configuration for Settings ---> Clipboard, set it to Primary
