Can't create volume group

I am trying to create a volume group with vgcreate for a EMC Clariion LUN that is 210GB in size. I can see the physical device files (pvcreate seems to have worked okay) but vgcreate keeps complaining about "Fill too large" without any other information.

Does anyone know what this means and how to get past it????

The possible culprits are the size of PE or the number of PE's that can be allocated per PV.Since you are tyring to create a new volume group you have the provision of either increasing the PE's size which defaults to 4MB in older hpux os version & 16MB in HP ux 11.x.

Example: If PE size defaults to 16MB and no of PE's per PV is 1016 by default..Then the default max size of a Harddisk that can be added to this volume group is 16GB(approx).In your case, you are trying to add a harddisk of 210GB which far exceeds the limit.

while creating the VG use (-e) option to change the value of max_pe/pv or try changing the value of size_pe using (-s) option of the vgcreate command.I would rather suggest changing both for optimal performance instead of increasing only one value.
