I'm trying to patch it, as the patches are out of date (since 2003) and when I boot the server I get an alert every time, and I dont get to interrupt the boot. I need to be able to get to single user mode to update.
Early boot VFP: System Alert
Alert levle: 6
Source: 8 = I/O
Source Detail: 3 = local bus adapter
Source ID: FF
Problem Detail: 3 = Function Failure
When I do boot the server it seems fine and I dont have any problems or errors.

SolutionTry this, boot your system to multi user mode.
# ll /etc/ioctl.syscon
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 35 Aug 23 2000 /etc/ioctl.syscon
# mv /etc/ioctl.syscon /etc/ioctl.syscon.org
# shutdown -r -y now
the /etc/ioctl.syscon will be recreated at boot time.
interrupt the boot, and boot to single user mode.
Hope this helps,
Robert-Jan

Re: Can't get to single user mode, early boot system alert
I managed to get into single user mode with that. I am still getting errors for now though, but I can install the updates now.

Re: Can't get to single user mode, early boot system alert
What you are getting is a GSP notification informing you of some h/w issue either with the system board or with the pci card. Get HP to diagonise the issue for you.
During boot up if you get this type of messages, you can type "X" immediately when the message is displayed to disable future messages and ack the current one.
Regards
Albert
